This 5-day course is required if you are designated to order and administer medical supplies onboard. Subjects include: pain management; rescue at sea, death at sea, diseases and advanced medical skills. This course covers the requirements of the 1995 STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A-VI/4, and Table A-VI/4-2. On meeting the minimum standard of competence in medical care, a trainee will be competent to participate effectively in coordinated schemes for medical assistance on ships at sea and to provide the sick or injured with a satisfactory standard of medical care while they remain on board. Prerequisite: Medical Care Provider
Successful completion of this 40-hour Medical Care Person In Charge course will satisfy the Medical Care Person In Charge training requirements of Section A-VI/4 and Table A-VI/4-2 of the STCW Code PROVIDED that they have also completed a Coast Guard approved Medical Care Provider course within 12 months prior to completion of the Medical Care Person In Charge course.
