Objective This 5 week course is in compliance with the requirements of 46 CFR 12.15-7 (b) (2) and shall receive credit for 90 days of the sea service needed for the QMED-Fireman/Oiler/Watertender rating endorsements. This training shall satisfy the requirements of 46 CFR 12.15-9 for the General Safety, and Fireman/Oiler/Watertender examination modules. The course includes a hands-on practical and a classroom lecture portion for theory and familiarization. The course outline is based upon The Guidelines for Approving Marine Engineering Courses. Any applicant who successfully completed this 200-hour QMED-Fireman/Oiler/Watertender course will satisfy the requirements of 46CFR 12.15-7 (b)(2) and receive credit for 90 days of sea service needed for a QMED Oiler and Fireman/Watertender endorsement provided they also present evidence of at least 90 days engine room service; AND if presented within one year of the completion of training, satisfy the requirements of 46 CFR 12.15-9 for the 86XXX, Fireman/Watertender, and 87XXX Oiler examination modules.
